Claudia Calle, who was born in Manizales, Colombia in 1976 and has resided in Miami for over 10 years, is an eclectic artist who designs and photographs by instinct capturing unusual moments and giving us genial pieces of art reflect of her heightened and particular life philosophy. She has a passion for traveling and capturing the lifestyle and culture of the places she visits and her work is the result of the fusion between spontaneity and a conscientious study of the social and cultural phenomenon that she perceives at her surroundings.

Claudia studied photography and graphic design at the Caldas University in Colombia (1993-1996), the Audiovisual Art Center in Mexico (1996 – 1997) and in the Miami AD School (2000 – 2002); and she is the recipient of numerous awards including 2 honorific mentions in the prestigious International Photography Awards with her series “Living in Silence” and “Between Frontier: the longneck story”(2009), Five Minutes of Fame / Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) (2009), Photographer’s Forum Top 100 Best Photography Worldwide (2002), Best of Show – Miami AD School Top Dog (2001), Premio Cámara de Cultura – Colombia – Best Photography (1997) and her most recent acquisition, first place / Fine Art Collage Pro from the International Photography Award (2010) for her series “Republic of China”, chosen among over 15,000 photos sent from all over the world.

In her own words she explains “My work is the result of the fusion between spontaneity and a conscientious study of the social and cultural phenomenon that I perceive at my surroundings. Art is an indispensable part of my life… it helps me find the answers to my internal questions. I get involve in the functioning and equilibrium of the universe and let it manifest freely within what I think and feel. Through the creative process something wonderful happens. My mind, eyes, hands and spirit align and without premeditation, in a magical second, I capture the essence of the people and things that are in front of me. The final result is always perfect because it comes from a spontaneous act. I enjoy experimenting with photography, painting and mixing elements over different and non – conventional materials. This permits my canvas to expand without limits making all aesthetic rules disappear. In my work I use symbols as part of the human occultism with the purpose of spreading and protecting the truth.”

“This is in honor to all those women in the world that do not have the privilege that I have of expressing myself freely”
